1st National Health Writers & Communicators Convention

An important landmark in Heal Foundation’s journey has been 1st National Health Writers & Communicators Convention. Inaugurated by then Hon’ble Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare; Anbumani Ramadoss, the convention saw participation of more than 100 health writers, communicators & broadcasters form across the nation.
2nd National Health Writer’s & Communicator’s Convention

2ND National Health Writers’ & Communicators’ Convention held at India International Centre, 23-25 September’09 New Delhi. The convention was inaugurated by the veteran Samajwadi Party leader and Party General Secretary Mr. Amar Singh. The leading lights of the Indian Healthcare sector including eminent doctors, researchers, academicians and administrators came together. Spread over 3 days, the convention brought together a mix of decision makers, health writers and communicators, medical professionals, civil society groups, academia and development professionals. Stalwarts from their field came and shared valuable insights on issues ranging from ‘Organ Donation’ to ‘Onco Economics’. Innovations in Infertility Treatment came as another innovative feat India has captured. Dr. B.S. Ajai Kumar, Chairman and CEO, HCG Cancer Group, which is the largest chain of Cancer Hospitals in India, stressed on the need to make cutting – edge advances in cancer treatment available to people at affordable cost. Hon’ble Mayor of Delhi Dr. Kanwar Sain and Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Delhi, Ms. Kiran Walia, also graced the occasion and shared their views on Sate Health services & Women's Health Issues at the second day of the 2nd National Health Writer’s and Communicators Convention.
National Editors’ Consultation on Improving Neonatal Survival

Heal Foundation conducted a National Editor’s Consultation on ‘Urgency for Improving Newborn Survival in India’ on 11th Nov’09 at New Delhi’s India International Centre. The event was supported by UNICEF Inda. The workshop was aimed and sensitizing media and co-creating strategies for sustained advocacy on this issue to bring about the desired changes in the survival rates of newborn babies in India. Editors from leading national and vernacular dailies from states which have the worst Neonatal Mortality Rates viz. Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Chhatisgarh participated in the consultation, which also saw huge representation from local media. Noted experts including Dr. Vinod K. Paul, HOD, Pediatrics, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi; Dr. Neelam Kler, President, National Neonatology Forum; Dr. Prabha K.Taviad, Gynecologist & Member of Parliament, Gujarat; Dr. Rajesh Mehta, NPO, WHO, India; Mr. Henri van den Hombergh,Chief-Health, India, Unicef; Ms. Angela Walker, Chief-Communication, Unicef India; Dr. Pavitra Mohan, Health Officer, Unicef India; Siddharth Mishra, Associate Editor, Pioneeer; Dr. Navneet Anand, Senior Consultant, Heal Foundation deliberated on a whole range of medical, social, political and cultural issues around neonatal death rates (children dying within 28 days of their birth). A team of frontline workers from Rajasthan & Haryana too shared their grassroots experiences. At 36 per 1000, India has one of the worst rate of deaths of neonatals in the world and this is such a gruesome fact that many of us are unaware of.
