Health Awareness & India
By- Swadeep Srivastava, Founder, HEAL Foundation
The Journey of ‘revitalizing health awareness standards in the country by contributing to setting better standards of Health Writing through the Media as a Medium’ started 15 years back by bringing together 15 odd Health Writers & Editors on one platform, has now reached a level when Health Writing is in a much evolved stage and at least almost all Media Houses/ Publications & Portals have a dedicated Health Writer / Reporter, few of them have Health Pages and Health Editors of International repute & the rest rely on Health Story Contributors as Free Lancers, but ‘health’ as a subject, as an issue is omnipresent and is getting due regards and fair treatment amongst all stakeholders. Not to mention about the rejuvenated emphasis on healthcare in India with the Govt. Pumping in with the grand- Ayushmaan Bharat Program christened as the largest (both in terms of coverage & expenditure) ‘health benefit” scheme in the world, also termed as “Modicare” taking reference of “Obamacare” from the global arena.
Hence, we at Heal have taken up the task of working more closely with the Health Writers & other stakeholders (including Researchers & Opinion Leaders) on 2 pertinent issues:
1. The Planning & Policy issues & their impact on the improving the Healthcare standards for the Indian population, both at the centre level (including working of Niti Aayog, NHA, NPPA, etc. at Policy Making level) & at the state level where most of the implementation happens through PM-JAY, NHM or State Health Missions
2. The Science of ‘healthcare’ which touches on critical issues which impact our population at large, be it the Nutrition/ Wellness matters or Diseases & treatment, the ethics in this ecosystem or the latest issues pertaining to Dr stakeholders (the extreme of which is seen in the recent barbaric instances of Dr Bashing & their harassment in illegal/ unethical ways) or the Consumer/ Patient stakeholders (be it the Govt. Apathy & poor hygiene & nutritional circumstances leading to the unfortunate Muzzafarpur meham in Bihar state).
This year, we have started preparing for our 7th National Heal Health Writers Convention, which is scheduled for 5-7 September in the capital city and the above said issues are key highlight of it, though overall it will also cover some more relevant science based as well as pertinent healthcare issues which have a scope for more fruitful discussions & deliberations.
Come, join us to make this journey towards ‘optimum health awareness’ a grand Success sole objective is that ‘No Indian should suffer due to lack of the right knowledge or information’ as Information Therapy or Patient Education/ Awareness Therapy is the harbinger of both Preventive & Curative Medicine, is my belief and that’s what we at HEAL have practiced & propagated throughout.
I’m always available for one & everyone for this purpose,
